How to install Crophesy LS and Crophesy LS-N

Crophesy LS and LS-N Installation and Extraction Instructions

Updated: March 2025

An exciting new generation of below ground technology from AquaSpy is here. Called Crophesy LS it’s easier than ever to install and extract with a new slim probe bottom.

Getting Started

Before starting the installation process, you’ll need to gather a few tools for the job:auger

  1. drill
  2. bucket
  3. water
  4. shovel
  5. paint mixer attachment

If using a cabled extension, you'll also need a 5/16 inch driver, hose clamp, T post, and T post driver or small sledge.  Here is how to install the extenders: https://youtu.be/VE3YCKX1GNo

Installation

Once you’ve chosen an installation location, use the auger and drill to create a hole just deep enough to install the probe bottom up to the base of the hex nut.  Ensure that the hole is drilled as vertically straight as possible.

Next, make the slurry.  Transfer the displaced soil from the hole into a bucket, then mix with water using a paint mixer until it reaches the consistency of thin pancake batter, adding more soil or water as needed.

Crophesy LS probes featuring an external AquaStrip-N nitrate and ORP sensor array require specific handling. Keep the probe in its packaging until installation, avoiding exposure to UV light. Additionally, do not touch or mechanically scratch the AquaStrip-N, and be sure to remove all protective packaging before installation.  Neglecting to follow proper procedures may lead to sensor damage or imprecise measurements.

Now pour the slurry into the hole and insert the probe until the bottom of the hex nut is even with the surface of the soil.  A slurry of proper consistency will fully coat the probe and fill all air pockets.

Once set, remove any excess slurry or other debris from the area around the probe.  The site should appear as similar as possible to its condition prior to installation.

Finally, turn the power switch to On and listen for a series of checks and tones to verify that the data upload was successful. Record the serial number on the side of the probe to use for finalizing the installation using ServiceSpy in the AquaSpy app.

If the probe fails to connect, try rebooting by switching the power off for at least 30 seconds before cycling back on, and listen again to the checks and tones.

Extraction

When the growing season has ended or it’s time to move the probe to a new location, you can use the Crophesy LS extraction tool to make the job easy.  Start by removing about 1 to 2 inches of soil from around the probe, then insert the base of the extraction tool below the hex nut and once locked in with the hex nut, simply twist to break free from the soil, then pull the probe straight up.

Remember to turn the power switch to Off immediately before or after extraction to avoid depleting the battery.  Wipe any excess soil from the probe with a damp cloth, then store inside in a cool, dry place until you’re ready to deploy the equipment again.
